Casiopea debut album ("Swallow") - vinyl vs. CD
By lfvmusic
Casiopea's debut album was mixed with blazing-hot treble which many, including myself, believe to be overkill. The original vinyl tames it significantly, providing a more balanced sound, but the CDs, streaming version, and Bernie Grundman vinyl remaster all leave it intact. I believe adding the CD de-emphasis curve to reissues produces a very close result to the original vinyl.
The 2001 16/44.1 remaster is the version on Spotify, Apple Music, and most streaming services. Tidal has the 2016 24/96 remaster, which is most likely the source for the Bernie Grundman vinyl remaster. I don't have a new record myself but the 2016 is closest to copies I've heard online.
30-second 16/44.1 FLAC samples provided under fair use. Original vinyl is presented here at +4 relative to line level - played on an AT-VM95ML cartridge.
